Hudson Valley Forecast: Go Outside Before Temps Drop Again

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Take a break. Forecasters say temperatures will climb through Friday, but then, sadly, drop sharply after rain sweeps through.

"We’re about to get a pretty nice spring preview as we head into the next several days," said Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. By Thursday, they said, temps could be 20 degrees above average.

Take a midweek walk! Short or long: your Patch editors suggest you find a nearby piece of the Empire State Trail, the last section of which was just completed in Dutchess and Putnam counties.

Over the weekend, things will shift again, reminding us that the official start of spring is more than a week away. Temperatures are predicted to drop back to normal for this time of year (including below freezing at night).

Not only that, but it'll be dark when you wake up Sunday morning — if you've remembered to change the clocks you need to move up an hour for Daylight Saving Time.

The National Weather Service offers this six-day forecast:

• Tuesday - Sunny, with a high near 58. Northwest wind 10 to 13 mph.
• Tuesday night - Mostly clear, with a low around 26. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
• Wednesday - Sunny, with a high near 56. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon.
• Wednesday Night - Increasing clouds, with a low around 37. Southeast wind 3 to 6 mph.
• Thursday - Partly sunny, with a high near 65. Light south wind increasing to 9 to 14 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.
• Thursday Night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48.
• Friday - A 30 percent chance of showers before 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 64.
• Friday Night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 39.
• Saturday - Partly sunny, with a high near 43.
• Saturday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 29.
• Sunday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 43.
• Sunday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 28.
