Hudson Valley Forecast: Hazardous Outlooks For Sunday Night

High, gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The National Weather Service has issued hazardous outlooks in the region warning of high, gusty, damaging winds after more than an inch of rain on Sunday, wind advisories in effect from 9 p.m. Sunday to 6 p.m. Monday.

For Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties, west winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected in southeast New York, plus portions of northeast New Jersey and southern Connecticut. Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.

For Dutchess and Ulster counties, west winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph are expected in the mid-Hudson Valley, Mohawk Valley, greater Capital District, Helderbergs, Schoharie Valley, eastern Catskills, Taconics, Berkshires, northwestern Connecticut and southern Vermont.

O&R Utilities announced it was increasing its emergency response field forces by half, to repair damage and restore service outages that could result from possibly severe thunderstorms, gusty winds and as much as 1.25 inches of rain, that are predicted to pound the service area Sunday through Monday morning.

The latest storm comes on the heels of a massive windstorm Friday that left more than 15,000 customers without power in the mid-valley and further upstate.
