Lake Carmel Beaches Have Reopened

The Lake Carmel Park District has reopened beaches at the lake after a one-day shutdown.

The beaches at Lake Carmel have reopened, and all beaches are safe to swim at, according to the Lake Carmel Park District. However, only Beaches 3 and 7 will be staffed by lifeguards today. The beaches were closed on Thursday because of the suspected presence of blue-green algae.

The Putnam County Department of Health tested the water from all four beaches at the Lake and the tests come back negative for blue-green algae.

The park district also said that LIFE Inc. will treat Lake Carmel with Cutrine Plus Ultra on Tuesday, July 12th. This chemical kills algae. Although there are no restrictions on the use of the lake with this treatment, the beaches will need to be closed for the application.
