Lots of Music Around this Weekend in the Southeast-Brewster Area

There are a lot of musical performances on tap around the area this weekend in a wide range of genres. Why not check out some of your options for live music?

Here are some of what is going on around the region:

Free Rabies Vaccine for Putnam: Bring your dogs, cats, and ferrets to a free rabies vaccination clinic on Saturday, from 2-4:00 p.m. Sponsored by the Putnam County Department of Health, the clinic is being held at Brook Farm Veterinary Center, 2371 Route 22, Patterson, and is open to all Putnam County residents. Pet owners must bring photo ID as proof of Putnam County residency, as well as proof of prior rabies vaccination. Tags are not acceptable. If you do not have proof of prior rabies vaccination, your pet will receive a one-year rabies vaccine. All dogs must be leashed and cats and ferrets must be in carriers. Comedy at Temple Beth Elohim: Temple Beth Elohim is presenting a night of comedy with Jackie "The Jokeman" Martling as headliner, with catering by Aversano's Restaurant. BYOB. The temple is at 31 Mt. Chili Cook-Off in South Salem: The South Salem Presbyterian Church will host its 2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off on Saturdayfrom 6-10 p.m. Chili tasters will again be invited to sample the chili offerings and vote for their favorite. Tickets for chili tasters can be purchased the day of the event for $10 or $5 for children 12 and under. Music in South Salem: Choirgirl Music will present a concert of sacred music at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. John's Episcopal Church, 82 Spring Street South Salem. The event is a fundraiser for God's Love We Deliver, an organization improving the health and well-being of men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other serious illnesses by alleviating hunger and malnutrition (www.glwd.org). The concert will feature Psalms in hymns and anthems, as well as an original composition. Featured soloists are Deborah Jones-Norberto of Yorktown, Robert Puleo of New Rochelle, PJ MacAlpine of Staten Island, and Linda Bottos of Hopewell Junction. Young Artist Instrumental Competition: The Taconic Opera will host its first virtuosi competition on Saturday from 1:00 pm to 3:00 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Mount Kisco. The company is offering an opportunity to pre-screened young instrumentalists to compete for the prize of performing a full concerto with full orchestra at the company’s April 2017 Chamber Concert. The competition will be opened to the public. The competition is at the Presbyterian Church of Mount Kisco at 605 Millwood Road (Route 133). Tickets are $20 in advance or $27 at the door. Chancel Choir Concert: Antioch Baptist Church will Present the Chancel Choir in its 46th Annual concert, “An Evening of Worship Through Song,” on Saturday at 6 p.m. Please join us for the 46th Annual Chancel Choir Concert at Antioch Baptist Church. It begins at 6:00pm on Saturday, November 5th, seating is limited so early arrival is recommended. There is no admission cost, a free will offering will be collected. Songs of the American Spirit in Greenburgh: Woodlands Community Temple’s Coffeehouse will present “Songs of the American Spirit,” featuring award-winning singer/songwriter David S. Goldman, who will be joined by the contemporary folk duo The Levins. The Temple is at 50 Worthington Road Located in Greenburgh. Tickets are $25 or $10 for students. Teddy Bear Healing in White Plains: White Plains Hospital will hold a Ted E. Bear Fair on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Children bring their favorite teddy bears and “admit” them to White Plains Hospital for check-ups, bandaging of boo-boos, or maybe a cast (if needed). The hospital’s doctors and nurses will greet kids, and diagnose and treat their furry friends. Families can tour the emergency department, pediatrics rooms, and ambulatory surgery rooms. St. Paul’s and the Presidents: Nov 5, 2016 at 1:00pm (Free Event) St. Paul's Church National Historic Site will present a program chronicling the interesting and varied connection of five Presidents--from Washington to F.D.R.--to St. Paul’s Church. “Maybe Never Fell” in Pleasantville: The Axial Theatre in Pleasantville is presenting the world premiere of the play Maybe Never Fell, written by Howard Meyer. The play addresses familial disruption, self-identity, and other scars of genocide and will run weekends Nov. 4 through Nov. 20, 2016. The Opening Night reception on Saturday, Nov. 5, will include wine, hors d’oeuvres and sweet treats. Reservations can be made by calling 1-800-838-3006. Tickets can be purchased online at AxialTheatre.org. Performances are Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 3 p.m. The theater is at 8 Sunnyside Ave. Tickets are $27.50; $22.50 for students and seniors.

Harvest Moon Ball: Hastings High School in Hastings on Hudson will host its annual Harvest Moon Ball on Saturday from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The event will take place in the Cochran Gym and will feature the school’s Jazz Band and the Madrigals singing group, who will perform Jazz, Latin, Swing, Big Band, and Funk music for dancing. Light refreshments will be served. From 6:00 to 6:45 p.m., salsa and mambo dance lessons will be available. There will also be raffle tickets available for some great prizes. Tickets for the ball will be available at the door and are $10 for students and seniors, $15 for adults and $20 for adults with a raffle ticket. For further information, click here.

String Quartet in Poughkeepsie: Vassar College will present the Escher String Quartet on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Skinner Hall of Music. The program will feature Mendelssohn’s Quartet in D Major, Op. 44, No. 1; Bartok’s Quartet No. 2, Op. 17; and Dvorak’s Piano Quintet featuring Vassar music faculty member Todd Crow. This concert is free and open to the public. Vassar is located at 24 Raymond Ave. in Poughkeepsie.

Laugh at the Election in Hastings: Laughing Liberally, the political comedy show, will present the best progressive political comedians at 8 p.m. at Purpl. The goal is saving democracy one laugh at a time with topical and political comedians, who will use their wit and wisdom to try to make sense of this crazy election. The host will be Scott Blakeman, who was the resident comedian on MSNBC's live coverage of the 2016 White House Correspondents Dinner. Purpl is located at 52 Main St. in Hastings-on-Hudson. Children’s Opera in New Rochelle: Combining the talents of more than 90 musicians, singers, set designers and costume artists, four outstanding Sound Shore arts groups have united to produce “The Emperor and the Nightingale”, a delightful children’s opera created by Susan Bingham, based on the fairy tale by Han Christian Anderson. The opera will be performed on Saturday and Sunday at 3 pm at the Arrigoni Center at Iona College, 58 Mayflower Avenue, New Rochelle.
