Mahopac Schools Chief Goes Out On Sick Leave

The district is preparing to resume in-person classes full-time.

MAHOPAC, NY — Mahopac schools Superintendent Anthony DiCarlo announced Monday that he was taking a medical leave of absence.

The news came as the district began preparing to shift from hybrid teaching and learning to full-time in-class instruction (or fully remote).

The district's tentative plan is:

  • March 17 - Full return for all IEP students K-12
  • Week of April 5 - Middle School and High School return
  • April 8 and 9 - Kindergarten and first grade return
  • April 12 and 13 - Second and third grade return
  • April 14 and 15 - Fourth and fifth grades return

Parents in the district should expect to receive a survey by Thursday about transportation and food service needs. The deadline for responses is March 17.

Meanwhile, district staffers will install polycarbonate barriers for K-5 students and order face shields for students 6-12, to be used when 6 feet of distance can not be maintained.

DiCarlo said during his absence, questions or matters that normally brought to his attention should go to to Melody LaRocca, District Clerk and Secretary to the Superintendent, who will make sure the matter is addressed by the appropriate administrator.

"After my recovery, I look forward to returning to the Mahopac Central School District as we make Mahopac stronger and better," he said in a letter to parents.
