Memorial Day Convoy Organized By Putnam Veterans Agency
Here's how and when you can participate in this inventive way to celebrate this important day despite the pandemic.
PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — The Putnam County Veterans Service Agency has organized a Memorial Day Convoy. The convoy will travel through each town and village using the town halls as waypoints.
With the support of County Executive MaryEllen Odell and Sheriff Robert Langley, the convoy will have a police escort, military vehicles, fire vehicles, and local veterans driving, flying flags, and playing music, organizers said.
"We encourage people to come out along the route while safely practicing social distancing, to celebrate the memory of those who died in active military service. Please bring flags and honor all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country," said Dale Cusack, chairman of the Putnam County Joint Veteran’s Council.

If you or your town is interested in having any vehicles participate in the convoy please contact Karl Rohde or Arthur Hanley at the Putnam County Veterans Service Agency so they can keep an accurate count on the vehicles that will be participating in the Memorial Day Convoy.
"Thanks so much and we look forward to seeing people along the route!" Cusack said.
Putnam has had 1,331 cases since the outbreak began more than two months ago, and 57 residents have died. Eleven people are currently hospitalized, according to the county COVID website.
