New Artists In Residence Program at SPACE on Ryder Farm

Its new partnership with Stitcher is aimed at developing scripted fiction podcast content from artists and storytellers.

Fro Space on Ryder Farm: Podcast industry leader Stitcher and nonprofit residency program SPACE on Ryder Farm have named three artists to the inaugural year of its new partnership aimed at developing scripted fiction podcast content from artists and storytellers.

The artists who will be in residence at SPACE on Ryder Farm are playwright Rachel Bonds (Curve of Departure, Sundown, Yellow Moon), writer Ash Sanders (Rolling Stone, NPR's The Salt) and musicians and storytellers Ellen Winter and Chris Littler (Chamber Band, 36 Questions). The artists were jointly selected by Stitcher and SPACE on Ryder Farm curators, through an invited application process that included past residents of SPACE as well as other artists working on projects that could be translated to podcast form.

Each artist will receive a week-long residency in September at SPACE on Ryder Farm, a one-of-a-kind residency program located on a 223-year-old family farm in Putnam County, New York. At the conclusion of the residency, Stitcher will review the projects and consider them for production.

“As podcasting grows, it needs more and different kinds of creators,” said John Delore, senior production manager at Stitcher. “The residency partnership with SPACE is a chance for Stitcher to build a bridge to a community of brilliant writers, some of whom love podcasts but have never thought about writing for the medium. SPACE and Stitcher are both focused on fostering good storytelling, making this a natural partnership.”

“Our roots as an organization are in the theatre community, and since our founding SPACE on Ryder Farm has been a creative home away from home for hundreds of playwrights and writers,” said Emily Simoness, SPACE’s Co-Founder and Executive Director. “We’re proud to be collaborating with Stitcher to create new opportunities and to seed new cross-disciplinary projects that amplify the work of these talented artists to new audiences.”
