Northern Westchester-Putnam St. Patricks Parade Canceled

A year into the coronavirus pandemic, the parade committee made a decision.

As the coronavirus pandemic rages on, the Northern Westchester-Putnam Saint Patrick's Day Parade has become another victim.

The parade usually takes place on Route 6 in Mahopac and is the third largest in New York state.

"In the interest of public safety, the Northern Westchester-Putnam Saint Patrick’s Day Parade
Committee regrets to announce that we will not be hosting our annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade
this year," said chairman Pat O'Malley. "We look forward to marching with you all again and celebrating our Irish Heritage next year on Sunday, March 13, 2022."

Since the general public will not be fully vaccinated by March, the parade committee members just did not want to go forward with the parade and create a super spreader event.

"We are one of the largest parades in the state and we tend to have a huge turnout, especially if the weather is good that day," he said. "We attract people of different age groups and in good conscience, we will not put anyone's health at risk. We look forward to holding the parade next year!"
