NY Gives 2 Putnam Agencies $24,130 In Highway Safety Grants

The Putnam Sheriff's Office and Carmel Police Department received grant money.

PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — The Putnam Sheriff's Office and the Carmel Police Department are among the local recipients of federal highway safety grants recently awarded to programs across New York for projects addressing overall highway safety, child passenger safety and police traffic services.

The state is distributing more than $37 million to help reduce deaths and serious injuries due to crashes to more than 500 programs in local, state and nonprofit agencies.

"This funding is critical to the localities and community organizations that help ensure our roads are safe for everyone who use them," state Assemblyman William Magnarelli, chair of the Transportation Committee, said in an announcement.

Local programs receiving grants include:

  • Carmel Town Police Department: Child Passenger Safety Program $3,500
  • Carmel Town Police Department: Police Traffic Service $7,350
  • Putnam Putnam County Sheriff's Office: Child Passenger Safety Program $1,400
  • Putnam Putnam County Sheriff's Office: Police Traffic Service $11,880
