Obituary: Alva McLeod-Scott of Brewster

Alva McLeod-Scott, of Brewster, NY, died peacefully at home with her family by her side on Tuesday, December 2, 2020. She was 62 years old.

Born on October 13, 1958 in San Fernando, Trinidad, she is the daughter of the late Clifford and Agatha (Faraday) McLeod.

Alva emigrated to the United States on Dec. 27, 1982, lived in Brooklyn, and became a proud US Citizen. On January 4, 1986 she married Charles Curtis Scott in St. John’s Baptist Church in Princesstown, Trinidad. Together they have three daughters.

Alva became a Nurse Technician and has worked at Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel, NY for the last 19 years.

Alva was extremely outgoing - always smiling and laughing; she always had something kind to say, was always sharing what she had, and was always giving of herself no matter how tired she was. She was friends with everyone and was devoted - not only to her girls, who she loved more than life - but to her work and to her friends. She was very close with her sister, and her brothers-in-law and sister-in-law and was always certain to cook and entertain for any impromptu guest.

From her childhood, Alva loved to pass time reading and writing, which she encouraged with her daughters. She loved to cook, loved to watch nature shows, and she loved fashion. She loved, and was so proud of her home, a home that she worked tirelessly for on her own – she was fastidious about its cleanliness and organization, and she enjoyed decorating it completely, inside and out, for every holiday.

Alva is survived by her three children, Amanda, Gabrielle, and Trina Scott, all of Brewster, NY as well as by her sister and brother-in-law Sylvia and Eric Dorset of Brooklyn, NY and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Stearl and Joseph Alexander of Trinidad.

A Funeral Service will be held with the Pentecostals of Yorktown, 3830 Gomer St., Yorktown Heights, NY on Tuesday, December 8 at 10am. Interment will immediately follow at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, NY.

Family and Friends may call at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY on Monday, December 7, from 3-7pm. If you are unable to attend in person, condolences for the family may be left at the funeral home’s website.
