Obituary: Edward Schneider, Past Brewster Fire Chief

A lifelong village resident, he established the Brewster Fire Department Museum.

Edward Thomas Schneider, a lifelong resident of Brewster, NY, died on February 7, 2021 due to complications from COVID- 19.

He was born on July 22, 1932 in Brewster, NY, son of the late Lillian (Nelson) and Edwin Schneider.
He was a graduate of Brewster. Ed was a driver for Lakeland, Merit, Armstrong in Brewster, retiring after 32 years. He was an active member of 71 years and past chief of the Brewster Fire Department. He also served as the department historian, establishing the Brewster Fire Department Museum. As historian he saw to it that every grave of past members had a flag for every Memorial Day.

Ed loved being outdoors and enjoying nature from the deer that came down to the pond to drink, to the wild turkeys that greeted him every morning to be fed. He was a talented carpenter and overall handyman that could fix or build anything.

He is survived by his children; Judy (Robert) Sechny of Brewster, NY, Wayne (Jane) Schneider Pawling, NY, his companion of over 40 years, Selena Cable, as well as her children Irene Cable Muller and David Cable, his brother; George and John Schneider, sister Martha Shook and his 5 grandchildren; Emily Sechny Johnson, James, Michael, Thomas and Joseph Schneider. There are 9 great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son Edward Schneider and his grandson Adam Sechny.

Due to COVID-19 a memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the Brewster Fire Department or the Southeast Museum.
