Geraldine Ann Zamoyski, MD, FAAFP, died Sunday.
Born Jan. 12, 1927, at home on Valentine Avenue in the Bronx, she was the third daughter of unschooled immigrants Michael and Anna Zamoyski.

After high school she went to medical technician school and then worked for a general practitioner in the Bronx for seven years, during which time she decided that she wanted to be a doctor.
Jean, as she liked to be called, put herself through night college at Columbia General Studies while working full time for Dr. O'Connell, then applied and was accepted to NYU-Bellevue Medical School. After graduation in 1958, Dr. Zamoyski took her internship at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. While there she met Ammiel D. Schwartz, MD, who was taking his OB-GYN residency there.

They married on Valentine's Day, 1960, and, after finishing their training, set up practice at 175 Main Street in Brewster in 1961.
They had 3 children: Jonathan, 51; Jennifer, 50; and Michael, 49.
Dr. Zamoyski was at different times a boarded family physician, health officer, school doctor, 10 years as President Putnam County Health Department, and ultimately full-time and teaching in the Department of Medicine at Westchester Medical Center in Valhallah. She also was part of the first Medical Board of Putnam Community Hospital.
Dr. Zamoyski died peacefully at home. At her request there will be no services. There will be a memorial website for comments at Jeanzamoyski.com
