Obituary: Officer Michael J. Moore, Putnam Sheriff’s Department
Visitation and services for Officer Moore are this week.
Officer Michael J. Moore of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department was killed in an off-duty car accident in Yorktown on Sunday.
Officer Moore began his career with the New York City Department of Probation in 1997 as a probation officer, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office website. In 1998 he went on to become a police officer with the New York City Police Department. In September of 2003, he left New York City and became a patrolman for Hastings-On-Hudson Police Department where he remained until his retirement in 2019.
After retiring from Hastings-On-Hudson he then joined the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department where he was assigned to the Special Patrol Division.

The members of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department join his family in grief. Michael is survived by his wife Janene and his children Jenna, Ryan, and John. Michael will never be forgotten and gave 23 years serving and protecting others with pride and integrity.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Cargain Funeral Homes, 418 Route 6 in Mahopac, NY 10541.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, at St. John's the Evangelist Church, 221 E. Lake Blvd. in Mahopac, with interment immediately following the service at the Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley.
