BREWSTER, NY — A new company called Parking Lot Theatre will pay clever homage to three great American artists when a new venture spawned by the coronavirus pandemic presents "NEIL SIMON & GARFUNKEL!" at the end of August.

The Southeast Cultural Arts Coalition bills it as an evening of music, monologues and scenes.

It's also a way to welcome live performance back to the community. This will be the first in a series of outdoor tribute shows, organizers promise.

The shows will be performed for small audiences — about 25 guests "all beautifully spread out from artists and one another. Guests will be given defined seating areas to place their lawn chairs or blankets as they enjoy our work," said Margaret Carey.

NEIL SIMON & GARFUNKEL will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 22 and 23 at the Old Town Hall Parking Lot, 67 Main Street, Brewster NY.

This show is free, but the organizers ask for donations.

The parking lot will have designated seating areas with 6 feet of space in any direction, "much like a checkerboard," Carey said. You will be able to sit in your designated square with people in your personal group only. Spots will be chosen on a first-come first-served basis.

Bring your own chair and/or blanket.

Reservations are required for the limited space available. To make a reservation click this link or visit www.culturalartsco.com.

Remember, if you make a reservation and then cannot attend, give Parking Lot Theatre as much notice as possible to fill your spot. "A no-show will keep someone else from being able to attend," Carey said.

The SCAC listed its other pandemic protocols for Parking Lot Theatre:

  • All staff members will be required to wear masks throughout the evening.
  • All guests will be required to wear masks upon entry into our parking lot. Masks may be removed while in your designated area. You will need to put your mask back on to use our bathroom facilities, when approaching our staff and when exiting the parking lot.
  • You are invited to bring your own food and drinks. We ask that you take your garbage home with you to throw out.
  • Performers will not be able to "Meet and Greet" guests on property after the performance.
