Putnam Joins NY Memorial Day Weekend DWI Crackdown

Impaired driving - and its consequences - is completely preventable. All it takes is a little planning.

PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — Putnam County Sheriff's deputies and officers from the Carmel and Kent police departments will participate in New York's 2021 STOP-DWI program from Friday through Monday.

Memorial Day marks the official start of summer. It has been historically one of the busiest travel holidays of the year, and is expected to rebound after 2020's coronavirus shutdown, according to AAA.

Putnam County Sheriff Robert L. Langley, Jr., Town of Carmel Police Department Chief Anthony Hoffmann and Kent Police Department Chief Kevin Owens said their officers and STOP-DWI Coordinators around the state will participate in the special effort to bring awareness to the dangers of impaired driving.
