Putnam Orchestra Performs Sunday At Brewster High School

The holiday event will feature music from around the world plus a special guest. Children of all ages are invited to be part of the show.

BREWSTER, NY — The Putnam Symphony Orchestra performs its holiday concert at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Brewster High School Performing Arts Center. The community orchestra is comprised of musicians from the community and surrounding areas, from students who wish to play pieces more challenging than their schools offer to senior citizens who have never lost the joy of music.

Sunday's concert is designed to take the audience on a journey to many different lands and cultures. Around the world, at this time of year, people eagerly await the Holidays whether it be Christmas, Hanukah or Kwanza. And all around the world, holidays are celebrated through unique music and rhythms.

The Putnam Symphony Orchestra was organized by Erich J. Miethner in 1976 to address the needs of the community by expanding the opportunities for cultural entertainment. It s and the Putnam Arts Council, both of which are major supporters of cultural activities within Putnam County.

The conductor of the of the Putnam Symphony Orchestra is Christine Smith. Christine holds a BFA Degree from SUNY at Stonybrook, she is a 1981 graduate of the Julliard School of Music, Pre-College Division, and she holds a Master's Degree in Education. She has also received a Certificate of Commendation for Meritorious Achievement from the School of Orchestral Studies.
