Putnam's Flag 'Row Of Honor' To Stay Up Through 4th Of July Weekend

A row of American flags is placed along the shores of Lake Gleneida in downtown Carmel.

CARMEL, NY - Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell's office said that the "Row of Honor" display, which is comprised of 200 American flags along Lake Gleneida's shore near downtown Carmel, will remain in place through the 4th of July Weekend.

“The United States flag is a portrait of our country’s historical past and symbol of freedom around the world,” Odell said in a statement. “Continuing to display the Row of Honor through Independence Day appropriately commemorates our history, our freedom and our service men and women who guard our freedom and uphold our democracy.”

The measure to keep the display up longer was done in honor of flag day, which took place on June 14, according to the county executive's office.
