Rabid Raccoon Found In Carmel's Putnam Plaza

County Health Department officials announced that the raccoon tested positive for rabies after being removed from Putnam Plaza.

CARMEL, NY - A raccoon that was removed from the Putnam Plaza Shopping Center in Carmel has tested positive for rabies, the Putnam County Department of Health announced.

The raccoon was found and removed from the plaza on Aug. 14, according to the health department.

Putnam Plaza is a major shopping center off of Route 6 and is not far from the town line with Southeast.

The health department urges anyone who came into physical contact with the raccoon, or who had a pet who did, to contact it. The department can be reached at 845-808-1390, with extension 3 during after-hours.
