Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued For The Hudson Valley

Locally heavy rain, small hail and damaging winds are possible.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 10 p.m. for Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Ulster and Westchester counties.

Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms are possible, with the primary threat of damaging winds, and possibly one inch hail.

There's a heat advisory in effect from noon to 8 p.m. for Rockland and Westchester counties as well.

There is uncertainty on the exact timing and coverage of thunderstorms. The severe threat diminishes after sunset, but scattered showers and embedded thunderstorms could continue overnight, the NWS said.

"The primary threats will be strong gusty winds, small hail, and locally heavy rainfall, which may lead to ponding of water in low lying areas," said the folks at Hudson Valley Weather.
