Southeast Committee Cancels July Fourth Fireworks For 2021
It takes a long time to organize such an event, and the obstacles were fundraising and insurance.
SOUTHEAST, NY — The Southeast Fireworks Committee announced Wednesday that its members had decided to cancel the traditional July 4th fireworks display.
The committee cited two basic reasons in its Facebook post: fundraising and insurance.
"We apologize. We tried our best to have the event last year and this year. We have been running the event since 2013. We plan to be back next year better than ever. Unfortunately fundraising starts in January every year. This year in January we were still under strict pandemic State guidelines for an event of this type. Insuring the event became an issue and we were unable to fundraise."
They absolutely plan on returning with Fireworks in 2022, they said. Plus, stay tuned — they are also trying to create a winter event in the Town of Southeast.
