St Lawrence Early Childhood Learning Center Keeps the Connection

Even though the Covid-19 2020 Pandemic has everyone taking a pause in New York State, as well as around the country and the world, in an effort to flatten the curve, the Staff of St Lawrence Early Childhood Learning Center, a preschool/daycare, in Brewster, is still remotely going strong!
The Staff have been communicating with their students and their families. They have been keeping in touch with everyone using most of what technology has to offer-emails, text messages, FaceTime videos, Facebook and Instagram social media sites, YouTube videos and Zoom conferences. Staff have been participating in weekly Zoom meetings to keep in touch with each other, to plan the activities to keep their students engaged.
They have been working together to come up with fun and stress free ways to keep everyone connected during this time. Teachers are engaging their own individual classes through emails, inviting their students to participate in activities at home that would mirror some of the things they would have been doing in school. They are also publishing YouTube videos with lessons, including activities such as calendar, circle times, story times and prayer. They are even doing Zoom conferences with the students, 3 and 4 years of age!
As a whole school, the Staff have been encouraging each other, finding comfort in creating and maintaining lessons, and enjoying the new found purpose of staying productive, something needed and appreciated by all of them, during this trying time. Their families have been participating in the fun and uplifting activities, and the feedback has been a gratifying source of comfort to the Staff. One particular activity they have done involved having each child draw or create a rainbow, representing God’s promise.
The families sent a picture to the St Lawrence Early Childhood Learning Center to share on social media. They wanted children to remember that God always promises a rainbow at the end of a storm. As a whole school, they also designed an “An Activity A Day”. Each day, the students participate, and then send a picture of themselves, which is then shared on Facebook for all to enjoy.
