Storm Damage: Almost 30K Out Of Power In The Hudson Valley

Severe thunderstorms pummeled the region Sunday evening.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — More than 30,000 customers were without power in the Hudson Valley as severe thunderstorms pummeled the region Sunday evening. On their websites, the utility companies estimated restoration for most over the next 24 hours.

At 10 p.m., Central Hudson reported 15,098 customers out, most in Dutchess, Orange, Putnam and Ulster counties.

NYSEG reported 3,435 customers out of power in Putnam County, most in Carmel, and 4,081 in northern Westchester, mostly in Bedford and Yorktown. Only 259 of its customers in Dutchess were out.

Orange & Rockland Utilities reported 5,112 customers out, more than half of them in Orange County.

Con Edison reported 10,155 customers out of power, 3,915 of them in Westchester County.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for the Hudson Valley in the late afternoon and a tornado warning was issued for Putnam County just before 9 p.m. as heavy rain and winds gusting up to 50 mph hit the region.

A severe thunderstorm watch remained in effect for the lower and mid-Hudson Valley until 2 a.m.
