Strong Thunderstorms Head Through Putnam County
Lightning, high wind and heavy rain are possible.

PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — Strong thunderstorms are located along a line extending from near Kent to near Fahnestock State Park, the National Weather Service reported at 7:40 p.m.
The storms are nearly stationary.
Winds in excess of 40 mph are possible with these storms. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring, as is torrential rainfall.

Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle, the NWS warned.
The storms may cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. They will affect central Putnam and central Fairfield County in Connecticut, having passed through Dutchess and Ulster counties earlier.
