Victim ID'd in Mahopac Hit-and-Run: Police

A suspect has been arrested, police said.

MAHOPAC, NY — The victim has been identified and an arrest has been made in the fatal hit-and-run Friday night at Lake Mahopac.

James Crecco, 61, was hit as he was walking to his car near his home on South Lake Boulevard at about 8 p.m.

Police said he and his car were hit by a westbound gray Jeep Cherokee that didn't stop.

Crecco was taken to Westchester Medical Center but succumbed to traumatic injuries.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home, 692 U.S. Route 6, Mahopac. The Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at St. John The Evangelist Church, 225 East Lake Blvd., Mahopac.

Investigators ask witnesses or those or nearby residents with home surveillance video to contact CPD Detectives at (845) 628-1300.

A suspect has been identified and an arrest has been made, Carmel police said Sunday. Now the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office has taken the lead on the criminal portion of the investigation.
