Thefts From Cars Increasing Around Brewster: NY State Police

Troopers have recently investigated larcenies from vehicles left unattended at gas station pumps.

BREWSTER, NY —Seeing an increase of larcenies from cars, the New York State Police remind members of the Brewster community to secure their vehicles properly.

Troopers have recently investigated larcenies from vehicles left unattended at gas station pumps. The pictured black Infinity with stolen CT license plates AU31375 was involved in two larcenies in early January 2021, police said. The victims left their vehicles momentarily unattended while with valuables inside. Upon returning, they discovered their wallets and smart devices were stolen.

In fact, larcenies from cars have been increasing over the past year, police said.

Tips:

  • Always lock your vehicle, even in your own driveway.
  • Close all windows including sunroofs.
  • Park in well-lit areas.
  • Never leave your vehicle unattended while it is running.
  • Never leave keys, valuables, or personal identification in a vehicle even for short periods of time.
