What To Do With The Kids On The Holiday Break

There are plenty of fun activities near Southeast-Brewster to fill the time until school starts again.

Southeast-Brewster, NY—Wondering what to do with the kids during the Christmas holiday break? It's not too late to plan a fun adventure. Here are just a few fun activities. Be sure to check with the event organizers to ensure that the programs are still on schedule. Wintry weather is just one of many reasons that programs are canceled or amended.

Putnam

The Spotlight Arts Inc. Acting and Musical Theater Studio offers a four-day Musical Theater Intensive workshop designed to give students intensive experience as a lead or supporting role in a staged musical production. The program consists of acting, singing and dancing with a script and score, costumes, props, and lighting. Classes take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 12/27 to 12/30 with a performance at 4 p.m. 12/30. Tuition is $350.

Pelham:

It's always a smart idea to check out your local library for inexpensive, entertaining fun. For example, The Town of Pelham Public Library offers a special week of children's programs. On Dec. 27, the Animal Embassy program, for children, 4 and up, will feature live animals such as snakes and lizards. Registration is required. The library will screen "Finding Dory" on Dec. 28 at 2:30 p.m. and Joe the Magic Man will perform tricks for kids, 4 and up, at 2:30 Dec. 29. Legos and Games take place at 2:30 on Dec. 30. The Pelham Art Center offers two options for holiday campers. Children ages 3 to 8 can work on a variety of art, while older campers can focus on mixed media and sculpture. For more information, click here.

Katonah:

Katonah also has art opportunities. The Katonah Art Center offers a holiday mini-camp that immerses kids and teens in art of all kinds from Dec. 26 to 30. Half-day and full-day options are available.

Mount Kisco:

Kids can run, jump, tumble, balance, stretch, sing, and move under the supervision of the staff at Jodi's Gym Camp in Mount Kisco. The camp for kids, 3 to 7, runs from 12/26 though 12/30. Gym members pay $55 per day while non-members pay $65 per day.

Junior Ranger Camp takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 26 to 28 at Westmoreland Sanctuary in Mount Kisco. Kids can visit the animal sanctuary and observe animal behavior in winter, as well as participate in crafts. For members the fee is $45 a day, $120 for three days, and for non-members $55, $150 for three days.

Mamaroneck:

Kids, 8 to 17, can rock out at the School of Rock in Mamaroneck. There are classes for two groups, ages 8 to 11 and 12 to 17. Days can be purchased individually at $149 each. Email to confirm single day enrollment mamaroneck@schoolofrock.com. A three day workshop from Dec. 27 to 29 teaches kids songwriting components, melody creation, chord theory and composition.

Scarsdale:

Kids in kindergarten through fifth grade can play kickball, soccer, flag football and dodgeball at A-Games Sports from Dec. 26 through 30. Parents can sign their kids up for a single day or a whole week. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Extra day care is available.

The JCC of Mid-Westchester in Scarsdale offers programs for children, ages 2 to 10. Activities include games, gym, arts and crafts, cooking, music and computers. Full day or half day programs are available.

New Rochelle:

If your child likes to climb, consider a climbing mini-camp at The Rock Club in New Rochelle. At this camp kids, 5 to 16, can learn the basics of rock climbing. There are morning and afternoon sessions. Pay per day.

Ossining

If nature is the thing that makes your child happy, check out the winter break program at Teatown Lake Reservation. The program lasts from Dec. 27 to 20, with sessions for ages 4-5 taking place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and sessions for kids 6 to 12 lasting from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Activities include hiking and crafts.

Pleasantville

The Westchester TTC Holiday table tennis training camp takes place on Dec. 28-30, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost: $55/one day, $100/two days, $140/three days, $175/four days. Yorktown Heights

Yorktown Stage offers a Winter Theater Camp for children ages, 4-5, 6-8, 9-12, and teenagers, from 12/27 to 12/29. The cost is $199. For more information, click here.

Rockland

Nanuet

Bouncing can be a fun way to spend vacation days. From Dec. 26 to 29, children, 3 to 9, can tumble and jump in two inflatable stadiums at Bounce U in Nanuet. The program lasts from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tomkins Cove

For a fun family outing consider a winter break visit to Bear Mountain State Park. Take a leisurely hike, weather permitting, and skate at the Bear Mountain Ice Rink. Bring your own skates or rent them at the outdoor rink. Public skating is from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and 12 to 1:30 p.m.

Mid-Hudson Valley

Poughkeepsie

Kids can learn to ice skate and take theater classes at The McCann Ice Arena in Poughkeepsie. Day camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for children between the ages of 6 through 11. In addition to themed daily arts and crafts and games, children will take a daily morning ice skating lesson and a theater class in the afternoon. Price per week is $200 for the first child and $180 for the second child.

The Mid-Hudson Children's Museum offers plenty of hands-on activities for children. The museum will be open from Dec. 26 through Dec. 30 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $8 per adults and children, with children under 1 admitted for free.
