ICYMI: 'Avocado Bar' Opening At Sunset Park's Industry City

Sunset Park has gone full gentrification.

SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — Three native Italians are opening what they call the "world's first avocado bar," serving up the green fruit on toast, in smoothies and in just about any other form you can think of.

Avocaderia will open "soon" as a to-go spot in Sunset Park's Industry City, the super-trendy warehouse space near the neighborhood's waterfront.

On an Instagram page that will put your brunch pics to shame, the new joint has shown off a few of the offerings you can expect to see once it's open.

Francesco Brachetti, a native of Florence, Italy, told The New York Times, that while they don't have avocados in Italy, he developed a love for them in Mexico.

"They’re tasty and healthy, and I ate them every day," he told the Times.

The restaurant's website says their avocados will come from a group of local farmers in Mexico.

"All our avocados are organic, farmed in the Mexican state of Michoacán by a consortium of local farmers, and fairly traded to the US," the website reads.

"Avocaderia only works with suppliers respectful of the environment and the rights of their employees."

But the claim to be the world's first avocado bar may not be accurate.

As foodandwine.com notes, an all-avocado restaurant called The Avocado Show opened earlier this year in Amsterdam, calling itself "Europe’s first avocado bar."

Patch left a message Monday at a phone number listed for the restaurant, and we'll let you know if we hear back.
