Brooklyn Ferry Riders Watch As Cops Pull Body From Bay

Ferry commutes watched as NYPD removed a body from New York Bay Tuesday morning, police said.

SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN -- Commuters waiting for a ferry in Sunset Park Tuesday morning watched police pull a body onto Pier 4, according to police and a witness.

The fully-clothed man was found floating in the Buttermilk Channel, near Red Hook, at about 7 a.m., police said.

Emergency Responders were able to pull him out of the water at the Brooklyn Army Terminal where Twitter user @sunsetpark1890 was waiting for her morning ferry, police said.

"Yikes, waiting for @NYCferry and the @NYPDnews is pulling a body out of the water at the Brooklyn Army terminal stop."

The man, who did not show visible signs of trauma, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death and the investigation remains ongoing.


Correction: The original version of this story reported that a delay in southbound ferry service was connected to the NYPD incident. The delay and the investigation were unrelated, according to a spokesperson from the New York City Economic Development Corporation.
