Could Amazon's New HQ Come To Sunset Park?
The online behemoth is taking proposals for a second, massive headquarters.

SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — Amazon announced last week that it wants to build a second headquarters in a major U.S. city, which could be a boon for whichever metropolis ends up scoring the development.
Leaders in Brooklyn are already rallying to try and bring it here. In an open letter to the Seattle-based online retail giant, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams touted the borough's "world-class arts and culture, five-star foodie experiences, healthy workplace initiatives, and incredible transit access to all of the natural beauty our region has to offer."
And of course, if Amazon were to move to Brooklyn, there are only a few spaces that could accommodate the company's demands, reportedly that it be a "full equal" to the company's 8.1 million square-feet HQ in Seattle.

One of those spaces could be Industry City, the massive water-front complex in Sunset Park.

Industry City CEO Andrew Kimball is part of a group of developers across Brooklyn trying to woo Amazon to the borough.
"We're working together to highlight the extraordinary opportunity that we can offer," Kimball told Crains. "Brooklyn's innovation coast from Williamsburg to Sunset Park has numerous opportunities for a campus-like environment with an ecosystem of academic institutions, a skilled labor force, bedroom communities and culture."
Sunset Park was also tossed up by name as a possible coastal location in the borough president's letter to Amazon. And Amazon already operates a distribution center in the neighborhood next door to Industry City?
How would the neighborhood feel about brining such a massive infusion into the area?
Residents already have mixed feelings about Industry City and the industrial campus at Bush Terminal, another sprawling waterfront space.
The project would also presumably need the support of City Councilman Carlos Menchaca, who all but guaranteed himself a second term in this week's primary election.
We've reached out to Menchaca's office for his thoughts on the possible move, and we'll update this post if we hear back.
