Friendship Archway Coming To Sunset Park, Borough President Says

Brooklyn will formally accept a Friendship Archway from Beijing Tuesday afternoon, officials announced.

SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — A Friendship Archway that comes as a gift from Beijing can be installed after the Brooklyn Borough President signs off on the agreement Tuesday.

Eric Adams will host a ceremonial signing ceremony at Brooklyn Borough Hall Tuesday afternoon to formally accept the archway that will span Eighth Avenue between 60th and 61st streets in Sunset Park’s Chinatown, his office announced.

The Bu Chu Tou-style archway is a gift from Brooklyn’s sister city, Chaoyang, and meant to honor Chinese culture and diversity in Brooklyn, officials said.

The nine-roof, 40-foot-tall, 12-foot-wide archway will be decorated with a marble base, indigo tiles, sculptures of mythical creatures and Xuan Zi-style paintings, officials said.

A Chinese inscription will read, “One Family Over Four Seas,” and an English inscription will say, less poetically, “Brooklyn — Beijing Chaoyang.”
