GoFundMe Started For Family Of Killed Bagel Delivery Man
Hugo Garcia was biking to work in Carroll Gardens when he was hit by an open door and fell into the path of another car.

SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — The community has raised nearly $3,000 to help the family of a bagel delivery worker who was killed New Year's Day on his way to work.
26-year-old Hugo Garcia was riding his electric bicycle around 6 a.m. down 3rd Avenue in Sunset Park when he hit the open car door of a parked taxi cab. Garcia fell off of the bike and into the northbound lane of 3rd Avenue, where he was hit by a 53-year-old driver in a Nissan, police said.
Police arrived to find Garcia lying in the road, unconscious and unresponsive with trauma to his head and body. He was taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where he died.

Garcia was on his way to work as a bagel delivery man at Bagels By the Park in Carroll Gardens. The accident occurred just a block from his home in Sunset Park, records show.
The community has since created a GoFundMe to help Garcia's family. The page has raised more than $2,800 of its $2,000 goal, including a donation from city Councilman Brad Lander.

"Our neighbor Hugo Garcia, a hard-working delivery worker for Bagels by the Park in Carroll Gardens, was killed tragically when he was doored by a driver & knocked into the path of an oncoming car while riding to work," Lander tweeted with a link to the GoFundMe. "Please give to support his family."
