'Hometown' Opening Deli, Event Space At Industry City

The people behind some of the best barbecue in the city are opening an outpost at Industry City.

SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — The folks behind Hometown Bar-B-Que in Red Hook, regularly recognized among the best of its kind in the city, are opening up an outpost in Industry City.

Chef Billy Durney and his crew won't be serving up barbecue and chicken from the industrial waterfront complex but sandwiches in smaller, deli-like space.

The group is also opening a commissary kitchen and event space at Industry City. The new location will complement Hometown's barbecue joint on Van Brunt Street and a soon-to-open pan fried chicken place in Red Hook, too.

"The sandwich shop is going to be interesting," Hometown General Manager Mitchell Rosen told Patch. "It'll be a lot of fun. Billy will be able to take the influence we did at Hometown, sandwich-wise. It should be really, really a lot of fun."

The sandwich shop, which doesn't have a name yet, will serve sliced meats, "some smoked, some not," Rosen said, including deli favorites such as pastrami, corned beef and turkey.

He said a buildout has started inside, and the group hopes to open in late winter or early spring, around the same time as Hometown Pan Fried Chicken.

"Were looking to get in there and get started around the same time as the chicken," he said.

The event space will hold events such as weddings, parties and charity events. Hometown is building a stage there, too, to accommodate concerts and other performances.

"We're excited. It's fun," he said. "And Industry City's incredible."
