Learn How To Survive The Wilds Of Sunset Park This Month

The city's Urban Park Rangers will teach a class on survival skills to survive in the woods during the winter.

SUNSET PARK, NY — The city will teach you how to survive the wilds of Sunset Park. The Parks Department will host a class this month showing basic skills to make it through a winter's night in the woods.

The "Winter Survival Skills" class inside Sunset Park, at 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue, is part of a two-month series of workshops by Parks' Urban Park Rangers in spots around the city which will teach skills like shelter building, fire making and more to survive in the woods.

"Learn tips and tricks that will enhance your knowledge of the natural world, and might just save your life," the Parks Department said in a release about the workshops. "Whether you are preparing for an extended journey through the woods or just want to impress your friends on your next camping trip, these skills are bound to come in handy."

The schedule calls for a Feb. 3 class teaching how to build shelter with natural materials in Pelham Bay Park in The Bronx and ends on Feb. 10 with another class on fire making skills in Marine Park.
