MTA Wants Developer To Take Over Vacant Sunset Park Land

The agency released a request for proposal Tuesday to find a developer to lease the vacant land at 4318 New Utrecht Ave.

SUNSET PARK, NY — A vacant plot of land near the Fort Hamilton D train station could become a parking garage or garden under a new proposal by the MTA.

The agency released a request for proposal (RFP) on Monday to find a developer to take over the land at 4318 New Utrecht Ave., between 43rd and 44th streets, for five years, according to the RFP.

The RFP allows the land to be turned into a parking lot, open space or garden and bans retail use on it, according to the agency. The plot is near the entrance of the Fort Hamilton Parkway D train station.

This is the second RFP the MTA released this month for Sunset Park. The agency is also seeking proposals to turn the 3.8-acre airspace above the Long Island Rail Road's Bay Ridge Freight Rail on 61st Street into a mixed-use development.

The deadline to respond to the RFP for the New Utrecht Avenue land is on Feb. 20, according to the MTA.
