New Sunset Park Bar Promises 'Micheladas' — and Security Guards

El Tahur Bar and Restaurant will replace the former Acapulco on 44th Street.

SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — The owner of a planned bar and restaurant on 3rd Avenue in Sunset Park avoided the community rancor directed at Los Tres Potrillos on Tuesday, as he pledged to hire security, prevent excessive drinking, and set up a taxi system for guests that would keep cabs from honking for fares.

Jesus Anzures will be transforming the former Acapulco bar at 4402 3rd Ave. into El Tahur Bar and Restaurant by the end of this year or by early 2017. On Tuesday, his liquor license application received the backing of Community Board 7's public safety committee.

The business will be able to hold 74 people. It plans to operate from 6 p.m. until 3:30 a.m. on the weekends, and could close earlier during the week, depending on demand.

Anzures told the public safety committee that he was not applying for a cabaret license at this time, although his lawyer said he might in the future.

On Wednesday, the owner told Patch that he'll be serving primarily Mexican staples, such as tacos and quesadillas, but that he's also exploring Asian appetizers so that he can attract a broader audience.

As for drinks, he highlighted the micheladas he plans on offering up, a Mexican flavored beer that's often on the spicy side.

Anzures said he's already signed a contract with a security company, and will have two security guards at the business during the week and three to four on the weekends.

He also said he's working on a contract with a taxi company that can have cars sent for specific guests, alerting them via text message when the vehicle has arrived.

Anzures said he'll be hiring three our four waitresses and two bartenders with proper licensing. Those interested can call him at 347-666-4133, or email him at anbray14@gmail.com.
