Owl's Head Park Murder: NYPD Still Searching For Person of Interest

Jennifer Cohen was killed in Owl's Head Park on the morning of Sept. 29, the NYPD said.

BAY RIDGE, BROOKLYN — Police are still looking for a man believed to be connected to the September murder of Bay Ridge resident Jennifer Cohen.

Cohen, 35, was found dead in Owl's Head Park on Sept. 29 near the intersection of Colonial Road and Wakeman Place, according to the NYPD. A passing jogger spotted her body that morning, police said. Her death was declared a homicide by police the following day.

Police said Cohen was found with trauma to her head and face. During an October press briefing, NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said authorities believed Cohen was killed some time before 5 a.m. on Sep. 29.

In October, the NYPD released surveillance video of a person of interest in the case: a man filmed walking south on 2nd Avenue with Cohen at about 2:45 a.m. on the morning of her death.

Detectives described him as standing about five-feet-eight-inches tall and weighing about 175 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black backpack, a black jacket with white trim, dark sneakers, a dark baseball cap, and black shorts with white trim.

About ten days later, new video of the person of interest was released by the NYPD:

The NYPD released the above information again on Feb. 15, adding that they had no new updates to report.

Cohen was killed in the NYPD's 68th Precinct, which patrols Bay Ridge. Through Feb. 12, reports of major crime in the 68th were collectively down 35 percent compared to the same period last year, according to police statistics, with 72 incidents reported compared to 111 in 2015. No murders were recorded in the 68th through Feb. 12.
