Owner of Sunset Park's Contentious 'Los Tres Potrillos' to Sit Down With Neighbors

The mediation process could take place as soon as Oct. 25.

SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — A community mediation effort designed to improve the relationship between Sunset Park restaurant Los Tres Potrillos and its neighbors could take place as soon as next Tuesday, according to Community Board 7 district manager Jeremy Laufner.

Pedro Luna, the owner of the business, located at 1004 4th Ave., wants to expand into the shuttered Tropicoso night club next door.

But at a community board meeting on Oct. 12, one of the restaurant's neighbors showed up with what he said were more than 50 petition signatures attesting to years of unacceptable behavior by the business and its guests, including excessively loud music, public fights, and urination up and down 39th Street.

CB7's public safety committee only agreed to back an expansion of Luna's liquor license if he agreed to a mediation process with locals, which he did, though he also claimed their complaints were exaggerated.

Laufner said Wednesday that the mediation process is being handled by the Red Hook Community Justice Center, and believes a meeting will occur on Oct. 25. The business' liquor license application will likely be considered by the full board afterward, during November's meeting.

In the meantime, the neighbor who brought the petition signatures told Patch that the behavior of those patronizing the restaurant hasn't changed, adding that they're still treating his nearby building "as a toilet."
