Man Hit By Subway Train In Sunset Park, Officials Say

The incident caused significant delays on the N and R lines.

SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — A man was hospitalized in critical condition after a subway train struck him in Sunset Park Thursday afternoon, officials said. The southbound N train hit the man around 4:40 p.m. while he was standing on the platform at the 59th Street station, an MTA spokeswoman said.

No criminality is suspected in the incident, the NYPD said. Officials said the man was taken to Lutheran Hospital, the former name of NYU Langone Hospital–Brooklyn.

The ordeal halted N and R train service in both directions in southern Brooklyn during the evening rush hour.

Limited service on those lines resumed around 5:50 p.m., but New York City Transit warned of "significant delays in both directions until congestion clears." Southbound trains are bypassing 59th Street, the MTA spokeswoman said.
