Sake Brewery To Open Sunset Park Taproom This Week

Brooklyn Kura plans to open their Industry City taproom Friday offering pours of their sake along with light snacks, the brewery said.

SUNSET PARK, NY — The city's first sake brewery will open their Industry City taproom to the public this week offering pours of their Brooklyn-made rice wine, Eater first reported.

Brooklyn Kura's taproom at 68 34th St. opens on Friday serving up exclusive sakes on tap with plans to give tours of the brewery in the future, according to the owners.

The taproom, which will be open on Fridays and Saturdays, will also sell bottles of Brooklyn Kura's sake to go and light snacks for drinkers at the bar.

Brooklyn Kura was started by Brian Polen and Brandon Doughan after meeting in Japan and later opened up their brewery in Bushwick in 2016.

They stayed in the spot until September when they moved to a 2,500-square-foot spot in Industry City joining other alcohol producers Industry City Distilling and Lineup Brewing on the campus.

Brooklyn Kura only uses four ingredients — American-rice, koji, local water and yeast — for their sake and it takes 30 days for it to ferment, according to the owners.

They will give tours of the brewery teaching how the drink's made on Sundays which they plan to launch later in the month.
