"In light of President Trump’s Executive Order putting in jeopardy the rights of our immigrant population in New York and their families who have lawfully obtained permission to come to this country to live, work or visit," Hamilton's office announced Tuesday, "Senator Jesse Hamilton has declared his office to be a Sanctuary Senate District (SSD) for the term of President Trump’s executive order."

Hamilton said his office "will provide services related to and protecting the rights of immigrants as they face legal challenges to their immigration status as well as delays in citizenship applications and potential deportation orders based on the misapplication of President Trumps executive order and the US Constitution."
The legislator said that more than 20 community organizations will contribute their services to the project, and that specialists will be at his office, located at 1669 Bedford Ave., several days per month to answer questions from constituents directly.

A press release announcing the project also said those needing assistance can call 800-213-6385, a hotline established earlier this year as part of the New York State Immigrant Defense Coalition. The Coalition is a project of State Senate Democrats working partnership with a variety of immigrant rights organizations.
More information about the operation of Hamilton's Sanctuary District program was not immediately available on Tuesday.
