SEE: Water Main Break Floods, Rips Up Streets In Sunset Park
A water main break on Fifth Avenue sent water pouring down sidewalks and will leave the street damaged for another few days, officials said.

SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — A massive water main break in Sunset Park that sent water pouring down sidewalks and left hundreds without water will leave the neighborhood streets ripped up for at least a few days, officials said.
The broken main sent water shooting several feet in the air out of a hole in the street after it erupted at the Fifth Avenue and 44th Street intersection around 9 a.m. Sunday morning, video shows.
The eruption would send water cascading down nearby streets and sidewalks for hours as crews worked to repair the broken main. At least six blocks of Fifth Avenue were closed throughout the morning during the flooding, according to the NYPD.

The break left hundreds of residents without water, some waiting until Monday morning for service to be restored, according to the Department of Environmental Protection.
About 80 apartments were without water Monday morning, down from 325 apartments on Sunday, a spokesperson for the department said. The service was restored on a rolling basis overnight with the last few getting their water back by about 11 a.m. Monday, the spokesperson said.

Police officers, a local deli and the neighborhood's emergency response team passed out water to residents and businesses throughout Sunday, according to posts online. NYPD officers also went door-to-door to check on residents.
DEP said the damage to sidewalks and roads will take a few days to fix.
