Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh On June 28 Shooting On S. Salina Street

'I call upon the community to come forward with any information about the perpetrators so we can bring them to justice.'

June 29, 2021

“My thoughts this morning are with the family who was fired upon in their car on South Salina Street last night. I’m especially concerned and pulling for the seven-year-old boy who was seriously injured in the shooting. Seeing the vehicle at the hospital last night and knowing someone took aim at a car with children inside of it was infuriating to me. It’s a senseless and cowardly act. We will do everything in our power to find those responsible. I call upon the community to come forward with any information about the perpetrators so we can bring them to justice.

We began this month of June marking Gun Violence Awareness Month in our City and nation. Last night’s shooting is another reminder of the work that still needs to be done and how important it is for us to stand together against gun violence. I thank all of the first responders and those confronting gun violence who were involved last night, providing lifesaving care and protecting the neighborhood.”
