Syracuse Technical Director Delivers for Connecticut Rep

Aubrey Ellis rises to some unique challenges in executing scenic elements for 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.'

STORRS — Connecticut Repertory Theatre, under the direction of Artistic Director Michael Bradford, presents The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, based on the novel by Mark Haddon and adapted for the stage by Simon Stephens. Kristen Wold directs.

Aubrey Ellis, from Syracuse, NY, is the Technical Director on this production; she is currently overseeing the execution stage of the show’s design elements.

Curious Incident follows fifteen-year old Christopher, who has an extraordinary mind. He is brilliant at math, yet struggles to interpret everyday life. When Christopher is accused of killing a neighbor’s dog, he sets out to solve the mystery and prove his innocence. His detective work takes him on a journey that turns his world upside-down and leads him to discover a life-changing secret. The winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Play, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time brings Mark Haddon’s award-winning, best-selling novel to life on stage.

She was also the Associate Technical Director for the Nutmeg Summer Series this past summer. Aubrey will be joining The Cape Playhouse this summer as their Properties Master/Designer.

Ellis says, “This design for this show is technically very difficult because of the shape of the set, we've all been learning and executing extremely challenging rigging to accomplish our designers’ vision. It's so exciting to see our space transformed in a way we've never seen before, so the challenge is 100% worth it. Because of the intricacies of this design, all departments have been working so collaboratively and the work environment has been extremely positive and electric. I think our audience will be blown away by how the Jorgensen will be transformed.”
