Dorian-Orphaned Pets Arrive In Hudson Valley
Many of the animals will be available for adoption this Sunday.

ELMSFORD, NY — Pets orphaned because of Hurricane Dorian made their way to the Hudson Valley and hopefully new homes, thanks to staff members from Paws Crossed Animal Rescue. Jennifer Angelucci, president and CEO of Paws Crossed, and Scott Salant, dog manager and behaviorist, traveled two days — to and from South Carolina — and brought back 22 pets.
"There is such a great need there, especially during a hurricane or any kind of storm like that," Angelucci said. "Clearing out the shelters there to make room for people's pets so they can be reunited after the storm is really important."
She said it takes an army for rescue efforts such as this and she was grateful to the shelter's partners who got the pets from Georgia to South Carolina where they could be collected.

One story Paws Crossed shared from the trip was about "The Branch Puppies," found in a cardboard box in a gully on Branch Road. There were six lab-mix puppies that were immediately placed into a transport van for safety.
The rescue worker who found them returned later to discover the gully was completed flooded.
