Excessive Heat Warnings Issued For Hudson Valley

An excessive heat warning is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 105 degrees or greater.

As the region gets closer to the predicted dangerous heat, the National Weather Service is issuing more warnings and advisories. For Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties, there is an excessive heat warning in effect from noon Friday to 8 pm. Sunday.

Heat index values are forecast to be around 105 Friday and 110 Saturday and Sunday.

A heat advisory is in effect from noon Friday to noon Saturday for Dutchess, western Columbia and eastern Ulster counties. An excessive heat warning is in effect for the same locations from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Heat index values are forecast to be up to 105 Friday in parts of the mid-Hudson Valley due to temperatures in the low 90s and dew points in the low 70s. On Saturday, the heat index value will be up to 110 due to temperatures in the mid- to upper 90s and dew points in the lower to mid-70s.

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
