TARRYTOWN, NY — The Greenburgh chief of police will be stepping down and will be replaced by a former police chief. Town Supervisor Paul Feiner said Tuesday Chief Brian Ryan, who was appointed interim chief in August 2019 and was later elevated to chief, said he wanted to retire in September.
Ryan will be replaced by former police chief Chris McNerney, who is currently chief of investigations in the Westchester County District Attorney's Office.
McNerney will be reinstated effective Aug. 17, and Ryan's last day on the job will be Sept. 29.

Feiner said part of the overlap in the transition will be used for the discussion of police reforms.
"While we are very disappointed that Chief Ryan will be retiring we believe that the Police Department and town will continue to be in very good hands with Chris McNerney as our Chief of Police," Feiner said in a prepared statement.
