Here's The Route For Greenburgh's Memorial Day Motorcade

The town will also air interviews with veterans on Public Access TV all weekend.

GREENBURGH, NY — In keeping with the spirit of social distancing, Greenburgh announced Tuesday it will celebrate Memorial Day this year with a motorcade instead of a parade.

In a release, the Town of Greenburgh said the motorcade will be made up of vehicles from its own town and the Greenburgh Police Department. It will also feature vehicles from the Village of Elmsford and Elmsford police and fire departments, the Fairview Fire District, the Hartsdale Fire District, the Greenville Fire District and the Veterans Advisory Committee.

Onlookers are encouraged to wear masks, practice social distancing and to watch from a car parked along the motorcade route when possible.

The motorcade's progression will kick off from Pipeline Road at 10:30 a.m.

  • 10:30 a.m. — Motorcade heads to the flag pole outside the train station for a brief ceremony
  • 10:40 a.m. — Motorcade leaves train station, heads west on Hartsdale Avenue and turns right onto Central Park Avenue.
  • Motorcade makes brief stop at 9/11 Memorial then takes a left onto Route 119
  • 11 a.m. — Motorcade stops in front of Greenburgh Police Headquarters for a brief ceremony
  • 11:10 a.m. — Motorcade leaves Greenburgh Police HQ and continues west on Route 119 before taking a right on Rosemont Boulevard
  • 11:15 a.m. — Motorcade makes a brief stop in front of Fairview Fire HQ for a brief ceremony
  • 11:20 a.m. — Motorcade leaves Fairview Fire and turns left onto Florence Avenue
  • From Florence Avenue, the motorcade will turn left onto Manhattan Avenue, then right onto Route 119 to proceed into Elmsford.
  • The motorcade turns left onto Stone South Avenue
  • 11:35 a.m. — Motorcade stops in front of Elmsford Village Hall for a brief ceremony

Some police officers could be seen along the parade route reminding viewers to practice social distancing.

Meals for Veterans, Seniors and Disabled People

The Town of Greensburgh said in a release it is also giving back to veterans in this time with meal and grocery services. The town's nutrition program can provide meals and grocery shopping services to some veterans, seniors and disabled people who contact the town at pfeiner@greenburghny.com or lmaranaino@greenburghny.com.

Digital Memorial Day

Greenburgh will air living history videos of veterans on public access TV from Friday to Tuesday on Memorial Day weekend, all day long. The videos consist of some 150 half-hour interviews with veterans, mostly from World War II and the Korean Conflict.

The interviews will be broadcast on channels 75 and 76 on Optimum and on Channels 34 and 35 on Verizon FIOS. Copies of the videos can also be obtained at the Greenburgh Library, and individual interviews can be watched on the Greenburgh Public Access TV website.
