Leaf Blower Ban Being Mulled In Greenburgh

The proposed ban would be in effect from May 15 to Oct. 15 and Dec. 15 to March 1.

GREENBURGH, NY — The subject of a leaf blower ban was discussed between the Greenburgh Town Board and the Conservation Advisory Council Tuesday.

The proposed ban would be in effect from May 15 to Oct. 15 and Dec. 15 to March 1, according to information from Supervisor Paul Feiner.

"No decision was made last night," he said. "The Parks and Public Works department will meet very soon to discuss leaf blowing issues on town property before a final version of the law is drafted and before the Town Board votes on the legislation."

Feiner said the draft law that the Conservation Advisory Council proposed authorized exceptions for town properties, which is something some board members want changed.

"I receive frequent complaints about leaf blower noise disrupting residents' ability to work or study if they are students," he said. "Because so many people are working at home, the urgency of taking action is greater now than ever before."

Feiner said he is supporting a one-year sunset law, which would have to be renewed or modified after one year.
