NYC Man Accused Of Being Intoxicated, Having Handgun On I-287

Police said he refused a test to find out the alcohol or drug content in his blood.

GREENBURGH, NY — A Bronx man was accused of drunken driving while carrying a loaded illegal handgun.

The New York State Police said, around 10:50 a.m. Wednesday, troopers stopped a car on Interstate 287 in the town of Greenburgh for traffic violations.

The driver, Zay A. Williams, 23, of the Bronx, was intoxicated, police said, and while being taken into custody, troopers found a loaded Colt .25 caliber handgun in his pocket.

Williams was taken to the Hawthorne barracks where he refused a chemical test to determine the alcohol or drug content in his blood.

He was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, loaded firearm other than a person's home, a felony, and driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.

Williams was arraigned virtually in the Town of Greenburgh Court and sent to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail, $15,000 bond or $15,000 partially secured bond.

He is set to return to court April 16.
