Obituary: Sr. Colette Mahoney, 86

Sr. Colette Mahoney RSHM, born Joan Frances Mahoney, passed away at Marymount Convent in Tarrytown on June 14.

Mahoney, 86, was born to Timothy and Lillian Boylan Mahoney in Jamaica, NY and entered the Religious of the Sacred of Mary in Tarrytown in 1945.

She taught at several schools including: Sacred Hear of Mary in Manhattan; Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia; as well as Marymount College in Tarrytown.

Mahoney was President of Marymount Manhattan College in New York City from 1967 to 1988. She advocated for the education of adult women and minorities; she oversaw the creation of programming for non-traditional students; was a member of the Lotus Club; and lead many organizations that aimed to improve the well-being of women, youth and the community.
